Lead Safe – Fiesta Dinnerware

Fiesta dinnerware is lead safe. The Fiesta Tableware Company has a long‑standing commitment to customer safety, and all modern Fiesta products are made with lead‑free glazes.

A Commitment to Safety

The company’s pledge to customer safety dates back decades:

  • 1986 – Lead was removed from select pieces of the Fiesta line

  • 1992 – Lead was completely removed from all Fiesta products

  • Today, every piece of Fiesta dinnerware is made with lead‑free, cadmium‑free glazes

As the company states: “To continue to make a safe and reusable product free of harmful materials such as lead.”

What “Lead‑Free” Means

Fiesta has used the phrase “lead‑free” since 1986 in connection with its ceramics. In the context of dinnerware, this means that lead compounds were not deliberately purchased and added as part of the composition. While trace amounts of lead may be present in naturally occurring raw materials, these levels are well within safe limits set by regulatory standards.

Modern Fiesta pieces often feature a “LEAD FREE” backstamp, verifying their authenticity and safety.

Third‑Party Testing

Independent XRF (X‑ray fluorescence) testing of modern Fiesta dinnerware confirms that lead levels are safe by all current national and international standards. For example, one 2022 test of a modern Fiesta piece showed lead levels of 19 ± 8 ppm — a level well below safety thresholds.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) permits lead levels of 0.25 to 0.5 parts per million to be safe for food use. California’s Proposition 65 sets even stricter standards for lead exposure.

Important Note for Vintage Pieces (Pre‑1986)

Fiesta dinnerware made before 1986 may contain lead in the glaze. Early Fiesta pieces — particularly those from the vintage era (1936–1972) — were made with different formulations that sometimes included lead or even uranium oxide.

If you own vintage Fiesta pieces:

  • They may be safe for use as long as they are not cracked or chipped

  • However, they are not recommended for everyday food use

  • They are best kept for display or decorative purposes

Fiesta® 5‑Year Chip Replacement Warranty

Fiesta offers a 5‑year chip replacement warranty on all first‑quality dinnerware items manufactured by The Fiesta Tableware Company. This warranty covers chipping that occurs under normal usage conditions.

How to Submit a Claim

If your Fiesta dinnerware has chipped under normal use:

  1. Contact us first at service@fiestadinnerware.it.com with:

    • Your order number (proof of purchase)

    • Clear photos of the chipped item

    • A brief description of the issue

  2. We will assist you with:

    • Your proof of purchase

    • Guidance on next steps

    • Connecting you with the manufacturer’s warranty team

  3. Once we connect you with the manufacturer, submit your claim with your receipt and photos.
